The following Terms and Phrases should be considered as having the associated meanings when used in the context of this site. Note that you can retrieve any of these definitions anywhere on the site where you see a small gray question mark next to the Term by clicking on it.
- Adjudication
- The procedures and hearings associated with a Committee reviewing a Misconduct Report to determine if the Card will be upheld or not. Adjudication also includes the determination of any penalties, suspensions, etc.
- Assignment
- As a noun, it identifies the relationship between a specific Match Position and a Referee. As a verb, it refers to the steps and actions necessary to create the relationship between a specific Match Position and a Referee.
- Assignor
- A WSYSA District IV User that has the specific responsibility to insure that proper Assignments are filled for a specific set of Matches.
- Association
- An administrative portion of WSYSA District IV responsible for organizing the Youth soccer program in a specific geographic area within the District. KPYSA, NSYSA, and OYSA are District IV Associations.
- Authority
- Identifies the Organization that sanctions a particular Match to be held. This might be a State Association, a local League, etc., but is ultimately the administrative body that organizes and tracks the competitions between the teams under it's guidance
- Browser
- A program operating in a Visitor's system somewhere on the Internet that has asked for a Page from a Server.
- Chapter
- Describes a collection of Referees that work as a group to provide coverage to Matches in a specific geographic area. A single Chapter commonly provides Referees to Matches sanctioned by one or more Authorities.
- Client
- Identifies the administrative group that is responsible for forming and managing soccer teams and related rosters (sometimes referred to as a Organization)
- Club
- An administrative portion within one of the District IV Associations responsible for organizing the Youth soccer program in a specific geographic area. A Club is normally related to a specific city or population area within the Association.
- Coach
- An individual that is authorized to work with one or more Teams in a Coaching capacity.
- Committee
- Identifies the set of Users that have been charged with the responsibility by an Authority to review and determine if the Misconduct Reports associated with the Authority's Matches will be upheld, denied, etc. The Committee is also charged with the responsibility to administer punishment, as appropriate and under the overall management of the Authority that sanctioned the Match
- Delete
- The action associated with removing a element from the system. Most Delete actions require some sort of a double click or "Confirmation" that what you have marked for Delete should, indeed, be deleted
- Directory
- A "white pages" list of Users involved with the WSYSA District IV. Each entry provides the name of the User. A User can change/add/delete his or her information in their individual Profile, as well as manage what information is available about them in the Directory.
- District IV
- An abbreviation for WSYSA District IV, the organization responsible for organizing and operating the Youth Soccer program in a specific geographical area within the State of Washington, U.S.A.
- Division
- Is the identification of the specific grouping of Teams within a League and Level that identifies a single playing schedule where each Team plays the other during a particular period (season, tournament, etc.). A Division is typically just Team's grouped for scheduling purposes
- D4Soccer.org
- A reference to the collection of graphics, pages, and functions that are operational on the World Wide Web as the WSYSA District IV's website.
- Event
- A single calendar based activity that may be of interest to a WSYSA District IV User
- Field
- A specific Playing surface where a Match may be scheduled
- Forum
- A generalized discussion area for sharing of information, thoughts, and miscellaneous information items.
- Inquiry
- The act of asking for a particular subset of items from the website database. E.G. you can execute an Inquiry to obtain a list of Matches meeting a specific criteria subset.
- League
- A collection of Matches between Teams assigned competitive Levels, Divisions, and applicable Rules by a single sanctioning Authority.
- Level
- A structural grouping of teams, which is generally adminiswd4tive and usually age based (as in U15, U16, etc.)
- Location
- The facility name and street address for one or more Fields
- Mail
- a Site based mechanism designed to permit information requests to travel back and forth between Users of District IV It is NOT intended to be a replacement for the traditional Internet Email protocol or mechanism. It is a supplemental site function intended to serve the Users of D4Soccer.org and facilitate improved communications.
- Match
- A scheduled competition between two Teams
- Match Report
- The act of reporting completion of an Assignment by a Referee or completion of a Match by a Coach. The Match Report is the basis for collecting the results of a Match and is the basis for payment processing for Referees.
- Member
- An individual that is involved with WSYSA District IV in one or more capacities. This includes, but is not limited to Players, Parents, Coaches, Directors, Referees, Officers, and Volunteers involved with our Youth Soccer programs.
- Misconduct Project
- Identifies the overall concepts, operational Site, related pages and functions, and supporting efforts associated with http://www.RidgeStar.com/misconduct/ and operated by RidgeStar as a service to it's clients and the general soccer community at large.
- Misconduct Report
- The information provided by a Referee that describes Misconduct behavior that occurred during a Match that the Referee was officiating. This includes Cautions (Yellow Card) and/or SendOffs (Red Card).
- Officer
- An elected or appointed User that is authorized to act on behalf of an Organization (usually a WSYSA District, Association, and/or Club)
- Organization
- Identifies the administrative group that is responsible for forming and managing soccer teams and related rosters (sometimes referred to as a Client)
- Page
- Represents the resulting HTML from a PHP Script's execution AND all the accompanying elements (.GIF, .JPG, .CSS, etc. files).
Each Page from each the Site has a URL, and an identifying Name.
- Parent
- A legally responsible adult that has one or more Players registered for participation within WSYSA District IV
- Period
- Used to describe a grouping of Matches and/or Accounting entries into a logical set of elements that constitutes a billing/payment date range for Referees
- Poll
- A named series of questions soliciting feedback from one or more Members about a specific topic or issue
- PollResult
- An individual response filed by a District IV Member to a Poll
- Position
- A reference to the general responsibilities a Referee accepts when receiving an Assignment. Typically, a Match might require the Positions named Ref (Center Official), AR1, AR2, and possibly a 4th (4th Official), completely dependent upon what the Organization has requested.
- Profile
- The area where you can store your personal information for the WSYSA District IV website. You are able to determine what will appear in the Directory about you via the Member: Profile page
- Referee
- A User that has obtained the necessary license and/or permission to officiate at a Match. E.G. Typically this is the USSF that licenses individuals to officiate at appropriately sanctioned Matches
- RidgeStar
- The pseudonym used for the company responsible for designing, implementing, and providing professional operations support for an Interactive Operations Site utilizing the Internet's Web services.
RidgeStar is an operational Division of North Ridge Software, Inc., a privately held Washington State corporation (serving it's customers since 1982).
- Role
- The specific areas of authority within the website including: Officer, Referee, Assignor, etc. Each User can be assigned one or more Roles. Basically, your Role(s) determines the Website Areas that you can see and use.
- Sanctioned By
- The name of the Authority, Client, League, Tournament, or individual that authorized the Match to be played according to the applicable Laws of the Game
- Segment
- A named portion of the website that collects functions and pages related to a specific Role in a common portion of the site.
- SelfAssign
- The actions a Referee takes to get the Site to determine if s/he is eligibled for a specific Assignment. If eligible, the Referee can cause the Site to complete the Assignment (essentially, permitting the Referee to assign himself/herself the Assignment).
- Server
- Identifies a physical RidgeStar system operating a copy of the Apache HTTP Daemon that responds to Internet based requests for service.
- Session
- Defined by PHP. Essentially, uniquely identifies a single Browser's interaction with a single PHP based website.
- Site
- The specific combination of files containing script (PHP) and graphics (JPG, GIF) available through the HTTP protocol that are combined to meet the WSYSA District IV requirements and is available on the Web at
- SiteManager
- The identified User that acts as the Webmaster for a Site and as the primary Point of Contact with RidgeStar with respect to Site operations.
- SiteName
- The unique character string you have chosen or had chosen for you that uniquely identifies you to D4Soccer.org OR your own Name in First+Middle+Last format (as provided to District IV). [p]The SiteName is unique for each individual user of D4Soccer.org
- Source
- Identifies the organization responsible for storing the actual Date, Time, and Field associated with a Match
- Status
- An indication of the Registration condition of a Player. Possible values are:
- Pending
- identifies a Player that has completed the initial Registration process, but final acceptance for participation with District IV requires the receipt of the appropriate Registration Fee(s) by District IV
- Refund
- the Player's Registration Fee is scheduled for or has been returned according to District IV Refund policies
- Registered
- indicates that the Player successfully Registered on the recorded date AND has had the Registration Fee received and processed by District IV
- Rostered
- is the status a Player is placed in when they have been rostered to a specific Team for the upcoming season
- Unregistered or [empty]
- indicates that the Player is not currently registered for participation in a District IV Program.
- System
- Used to describe the basic operating system enviroment of a Visitor, Browser, or Server.
- Team
- identifies a single group of Players that are participating in a League and scheduled Matches
- Term
- A word or series of words that represents a specific element, activity, role, action, etc. when used in the context of D4Soccer.org.
- Turnback
- The act of returning a current Referee Assignment to the pool of available Positions for other Referees to assign themselves to.
- Type
- Identifies a Type of team as being in one of the following three groups/categories - (Rec = Full Field Recreational, Mod = Any Small Sided Team, Comp = Competitive)
- User
- is a single individual that has permission to access D4Soccer.org and interact with it in one or more Roles
- Text Format
- You can control how the information you enter is displayed by using one or more of the following elements surrounded by brackets [ or ] within the text string you enter:

- Visitor
- A person who is viewing/using D4Soccer.org, but has not logged on. Visitors can only access pages in the Public areas of the WebSite.
- Volunteer
- A volunteer is defined as any person who intends to be a team official (coach, assistant coach, trainer, team manager, etc.) including those who are appointed or selected in any manner to coach at any level within WSYSA or its affiliates. This procedure also includes all employees/volunteers who will be elected or appointed to a position of responsibility for financial assets collected or disbursed under the auspices of WSYSA or it's member organizations.
- WebSite Area
- The website pages and/or functions that are authorized for use by a particular Role. Each User's available WebSite Area(s) appear as "clickable graphical elements" at the left edge of each page produced by the WebSite.
